1879c. George B. Owen Walnut Parlor Clock. Single barrel pendulum, 8 day time/strike.Up for auction is this nice example of a walnut parlor clock from Geo. B. Owen. who pioneered the introduction of solid walnut parlor clocks. Owen was the General Manager of the Gilbert Clock Co. for nearly 50 years and eventually became the company's President. He had a small factory built behind his home to build the Owen clocks while still remaining active with Gilbert.This 8 day time/strike spring driven clock runs well, even though we have not serviced the movement, it has been inspected, oiled and has ran well for the last 6 months. Original is the single barrel pendulum, the nickle dial and nickle bell. The dial is not original but matches well the ivory color, the Maltese hands are not original. The case is in excellent condition for it ages with no splitting or seperating, t is a small hole (tooth pick dia.) towards the top left of the cases head dress, not sure what that's about. T has been a repair w the fan design portion of the crown has been glued, but matches the case well. The door glass is original with some fading of the stenciled design that some Owens clocks acutally used an etched pattern, but these were limited in production and many were lost due to breakage.The signed Geo. B. Owen movement is running well, it could use some read more
