Welcome to Antiques & Moore! This listing is for a wonderful 19th Century cast iron inkstand in the form of a mounted stag head with a large antler rack that would hold five pens. The base that holds the fitted inkwell has a molded design of acorns and foliage and sits on four decorated feet. The inkstand stands 5 3/4" high, 7" long and 4 1/4" wide. The stag's head is nicely sculpted and although made in two pieces which meet in the center of the head, the seam is smooth and tight. The glass inkwell has a swirl design and is heavy glass. The top opening has a swirl design fitted cast iron cap or top. The glass inkwell is clean on the top edge although t is a small internal no-harm fracture on the bottom corner and a rough area on one side edge. This spot may actually be a factory flaw, however, it is not noticeable at all if the inkwell is placed with this edge facing the front as it is covered by the stag's ear. The cast iron inkstand is definitely original and is NOT a reproduction. All parts are original to the piece and it is in excellent Estate condition.
