AUTHENTIC ORIGINAL Edo Period , (early/mid 1800s) Japanese Mino shakudo tsuba (samurai sword guard). Mino represents both the area and highly touted faction responsible for creating this fine work of art. It is in excellent condition and has some fine gold inlay artwork of deer and chrysanthemums on a nanakoji surface. It measures 6.9 cm x 6.1 cm and weighs 96 grams. Very good condition. It is a very special antique piece from feudal era Japan. Please judge from the photos provided. Comes with box. Mino (now Gifu prefecture) has been a key traffic junction since early times, situated near Kyoto, tfore metal-carving also prospered in this region. "Ko-Mino" is applied to tsuba which were made before the Momoyama period (1573 - 1600), and all others are referred to as "Minobori," which were made after that period. The features of Minobori are that: (1) the Shakudo or Yamagane (red copper/gold & copper alloy) is mostly used as a ground metal. Iron is seldom used. (2) Autumn flowers are heavily used for design. (3) Regarding the tsuba itself, most of the artwork is chiseled down except for Seppa-Dai and Mimi. SERIOUS BIDDERS ONLY!!! Payment due within 5 days of auction ending. Thank you for looking. Air shipping - $10 (add 4.25$ if registered mail is desired) EMS shipping - (express/insured - $15, $18 to Europe) Please use the ask seller a question option if you would like me to send larger photos directly to your email address.
