Welcome and thank you for visiting Sweet Home Chicago Antiques! This auction is for a delightful bird finial master sugar spooner. It makes an excellent accompaniment to any tea or coffee service. Another possible use would be to serve an appetizer spread. We are auctioning two of these. The only difference is that the inside of the spooners are slightly different. The photos in each auction represent the spooner being sold in that auction. Both have very good silver plating. These are from my personal collection. I went through a number of these sets before I found the ones with rich enough silver to suit me. T are no big dents, dings or scratches to mar your presentation. These are exceptional master spooners, but we are in the process of downsizing. The manufacturing for this piece was done at the Wm. A Rogers plant in Canada. For many years Rogers operated plants on both sides of the border, and is a prominent in American silver as they are in Canadian holloware. The bird figural is completely intact, and his features are still crisp. Do not the animal that adorns each of the handles. He has a squirrel's tail and a rabbit's ears - and he is absolutely delightful. I've enjoyed these guys for a long time, as our backyard is dominated by rabbits and an occasional squirrel. All of the ornate spoon holders are intact. The handles are firmly attached to the body, and the spooner does sit level on a flat surface. Overall it measures 8" tall to the top of the finial. The handle-to-handle width is approximately 6-1/2", and the pedestal foot is 3-1/2" diameter. The underside of this base is stamped as follows: "Wm A Rogers, Made in Canada, SP Copper, BM MTS". The SP Copper obviously stands for silver on copper - which is really good. The BM MTS stands for base metal mounts. Two of these pieces make a prominent display on a sideboard or table. This could be just the thing for a perfect present, or to dress up your own Holiday fare! Do note too that we have an elegant bird finial butter dish also for auction.
