In this auction we are offering for sale a very nice original Civil War period sewing kit or needle case; often referred to as a housewife. This particular item is made from dark brownish black oilcloth and lined with a brown striped silk; it is filled with padding and has a velvet pillow on either end for the pins. T are still some original needles and pins inside. Items of this sort were often made by lady's group and sent to soldiers in the field on both sides; many documented examples very similar to this one exist. We have no history with this piece but it is great for display in a collection of original period items and may well have been carried by a soldier. This item measures 3 ½ inches wide and is 5 inches long when opened. Use the FREE Counters 1 million sellers do - Vendio!
