ANTIQUE STANLEY BAILEY SMOOTH PLANE NO.3 For your consideration is very nice Stanley Bailey plane no.3 plane with smooth bottom. Plane is 8" long. Has 1-3/4" wide cutter. Plane has original black japanning finish (+ 95%) with only minor wear along sides and in frog area, excellent condition, very uncommon on planes that old... Casting is in great condition , couple of minor scratches, no pitting, very small iniatial letters on one side see pict.#5 , bottom is nice and shows only very minor signs of use, mouth is great, casting is factory marked with "B" letter behind frog. Rosewood tote and knob are solid, although tote was repaired and refinished, looking great. Plane iron blade has Stanley " PAT. AP'L 19, 92 " TM logo and has 1 1/4" clean cutter area left , some staining and discoloration , no deep pitting. Frog has "Stanley PAT 7-24-88" on lateral lever, and all works fine. Plane was made around 1900, and is in excellent condition for it's age. Frog mechanism needs to be adjusted and blade honed for workbench use. Thank you for visiting my auction.
