A friend of mine asked me to do some research on this Kettle and if it was worth more than 10 dollars, to sell it for him. I don't know, what do you think..? more than 10 dollars? He told me it came from one of the Earliest, Whoop-de-doo, High End Resorts on Lake Superior. He got it from his Father who got it at the Auction when they demolished the Resort...Progress huh? It's in GREAT Shape, the Nickel is 99% perfect - some MINOR texturing from use. The Antler Handle appears to be Original Equipment - probably Custom Designed for the Hotel, it wiggles a bit but is still firmly attached to the Kettle ... VERY UNUSUAL design Element and so,..Northwoods. I've never seen another one like it. The Bottom is stamped Rome Metal Works and a Number 5. Evidently, Rome Metal Works was in production from c.1840 to c.1890 when they were bought out by Revere and the Name was changed. I'm guessing as to the Vintage but it's somew between 1840 and 1890. The Pot stands about 7 1/2 inches tall, 9 1/4 inches tip of Spout to edge of Handle and 6 inches across the Bottom. Copper is apparent in various places - on the Bottom and at the Top Hole and I can't tell if this has a Tin Lining in it...it almost feels 'Double-walled' . Outstanding Condition for being at least 107 years old. Have fun and thanks for looking. Per a request from a visitor, I have added an additional Photograph of the Trademark. The Stamp is sharply outlined but the 'O' and 'M' of ROME are not present, I think it was a weak Stamp at the Factory. The 'R' is faint but visible and the 'E' is crisply apparent. I have researched a bit and this is the correct 'Rome Metal Ware' Back Stamp. Thanks for looking.
