If you're reading this description, you probably know about Joe Shuster (co-creator of Superman) and the illustrations he did for 16 short paperback books, "Nights of Horror". The books and Shuster's secret identity were well documented by Craig Yoe in his book "Secret Identity - The Fetish Art of Superman's co-creator Joe Shuster". This auction also includes a copy of Yoe's book as well. According to Yoe, Shuster did the early drawings for the original Superman comics with his partner Jerry Siegel. They sold the rights to Superman for $130 and then realized Superman was a gold mine and tried to get the rights back but could not. Neither attained the same success they had with Superman. In 1954 a neighbor, Eugene Maletta who was a printer in Queens formed a publishing company that included himself a partner named Clancy, thus Malcla Publishing Company. Since Shuster was a neighbor he drew the illustrations for these S&M type short stories. I didn't read the entire Yoe book but following the publication of some of these Nights of Horror books, a horrible crime occurred in New York and this type of publication came under great scrutiny. The publication was banned, for lack of a better word. The illustrations are clearly Shusters.
