This is a hand painted Nippon demitasse cup and saucer. It is heavily gilded and depicts rural scenes. The cup measures approx. 1 5/8" H X 2 1/2" D, plus handle. The saucer is approx. 4 1/4" D. Both are in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs.This is part of a very large collection of Nippon and other vintage porcelain I inherited from my mother. I hope to be listing a few items at a time. While I am somewhat familiar with her other interests such as Belleek and Dresden, I have a limited amount of knowledge when it comes to her Asian pieces. I know - through numerous recitations - that the word, "Nippon" on imported pieces generally dates between 1895 - 1921, when the U.S. required that, "Japan" appear on the piece. Many of her pieces have only Asian character writings for markings. Some of these have been translated, but I am really not sure what date(s) to assign to them. However, she felt, assuming the piece was intended for export, they most likely dated before the use of, "Nippon". I know that she felt virtually all her pieces were late 19th to early 20th century.Re: shipping. I try to pack with extra care to assure the piece arrives safely.
