Noritake china often employed applied gold, giving products an appearance of elegance. The most popular of these is commonly called Pattern 175. Early production of this pattern was known as this backstamped number, 16034, an early reference to a patent or registry number. The earliest Noritake backstamp found on pattern 175 was one in use from 1906 to 1908. This tells us that the pattern 175 was being produced on some shapes by the 1906-08 era of Noritake. Pieces of 175 are also found with Nippon backstamps indicating production pre-dating the adoption of Noritake marks, however, the extensive line of 175 tableware was not produced until later. The pattern 175 remained in production for a very long time, appearing to be the longest produced Noritake pattern. Noritake corporate literature reports the pattern resumed production after World War II in 1951. It is consistently called "White and Gold" throughout this time in company literature, often coupled with a reference to read "White and Gold (175). This pattern was last offered in the Noritake company price lists of 1992, after being in production about 90 years. 175 and it's variations were popular for their elegant and rich look. In the homes of middle class America and in farmhouses across the country the ornate gold china was revered. Today is evokes images of earlier times and early 20th century elegance.
