One-of-a-Kind 1941 Panoramic Junior High Photograph

of 15 Year Old Norma Jeane Baker - Marilyn Monroe

Signed and inscribed on reverse to one of her classmates whom she dated

This listing is for an extremely rare signed and inscribed photograph of 14/15 year old Norma Jeane Baker ( later to become Marilyn Monroe ). The black & white panoramic photograph features the graduating class from the Ralph Waldo Emerson Junior High School - 'Summer 1941.' It was purchased from a private collection in 2009 ( item did not meet the reserve price in the October 2009 RR Auction ). This may be the earliest example of a Marilyn Monroe signature known to exist ( view YouTube video below ). Some sources state that Norma Jeane was actually 14 years old when the picture was taken. Please refer to the links below for more information on this fantastic piece. Serious bidders may contact us with any questions regarding this piece. This is a private listing to protect bidder identity. Appraised for $22,000 in 2010 for insurance purposes.

One-of-a-kind vintage 23 x 7.5 panoramic photo of the graduating Class of Summer 1941 Ralph Waldo Emerson Junior High School in Los Angeles, with sweet, hopeful Norma Jeane Baker (later Marilyn Monroe) easily identifiable to the right of center in a sea of fresh faces, signed and inscribed amid other classmates in fountain pen on the reverse, "To a super and swell friend (date at that) I mean it Bobby! Norma Jean Baker '41". Framed to an overall size of 25.25 x 8.25. In very good condition, with scattered mild toning to reverse, a classmates signature over Marilyns last name, but still legible, a repaired tear to the right of signature, and scattered creasing to image. This unbelievable find, her junior high school class picture, shows a 15-year-old Norma Jeane at her most innocent and vulnerable. After a stint in the Los Angeles Orphans Home, a succession of foster homes, and brief stays with her mother, Norma Jeane was most likely living with Grace McKee, a friend of her mothers. That same year she met James Dougherty, whom she married the following year. While Norma Jeane Dougherty-signed items occasionally surface, this is the only Norma Jeane Baker autograph we have ever encountered!
