NORRIS No 14 SMOOTH PLANE SCARCE! Offered here is a Norris No. 14 unhandled smoothing plane (without adjuster) of pre-WWII vintage. The metal is cast iron, with rosewood infill and a gunmetal lever cap. The sole is 7 1/8 inches long, and 2 9/16 inches at the mouth. The Norris marked cutter is 2 1/8 inches wide, with 1 1/4 inches of cutting length left. The iron sole on the front is set with a screw and has the word “UNBREAKABLE” stamped near the bottom. There is an owner’s stamp on the top of the front handle and at the top just behind the frog portion of the infill. There is an early Norris maker’s mark just below the neck of the lever cap; it reads “Norris London” with the words in opposing arcs. The screw head at the back of the plane, near the bottom, has been distorted by many hammer blows. There is no rust or pitting on the metal. No cracks either. Both the cutter blade and the cap iron are stamped “NORRIS LONDON,” again with the words in opposing arcs. On the back of the cutter blade, at the upper right corner, is stamped the number “4.” Just below the slot in the cutter is a letter “H” in a circle. There’s a small bit of rust on the back side of the cutter blade that can be easily cleaned off. The cutter blade is bedded at 48 degrees. Finally, there is a number “27” stamped in the infill (the frog portion) under the plane read more
