THE ULTRA SABRE! Very attractive desk model of the North American Aviation F-107A. The F-107 was the North American entrant in the USAF tactical fighter/bomber competition ultimately won by the Republic F-105 Thunderchief . The 107 was flight tested by both the USAF and NACA / NASA at Edwards AFB. It was flown by such test pilot luminaries as Robert White, Scott Crossfield, Al White, Jack McKay, Stu Childs, Stan Holtoner and Al Boyd. Bob White and Jack McKay flew it in the side stick controller development program for the X-15. This beautiful wood display model rests on a Topping-style acrylic display stand. The stand is marked with the NAA logo, North American Aviation script, and the F-107A designation. The model pivots on a plastic rod in the manner of the Topping X-15 desk model. It makes for a very striking "in flight" display. It also has two fittings in the belly munitions pod for a conventional stand (stand included). The model is finished in an international orange/silver flight test livery depicting the first of three F-107 aircraft, number 55118. It is more orange than appears in the photos. The images turned out a bit red. This large model is 15" in length and has a wingspan of 10", about 1/48 th scale. It is in excellent condition and will make a stunning addition to any flight test history or desk model collection. This item will be carefully packaged in a custom styrofoam container for shipping.
