Twenty-nine-hand-colored lithographed plates after George Catlin, plus title page. In 1844 Catlin’s paintings were published in London as Catlin’s North American Indian Portfolio. Hunting Scenes and Amusements of the Rocky Mountains and Prairies of America, an edition consisting of twenty-five plates. The collection we offer is referred to as a “de luxe” edition, which was published in various places for several years after the 1844 edition. This collection has been in the attic of a Maine bank for many years, and to the best or our knowledge, has not been displayed for fifty years or more. The prints represented include the title page and thirty-one plates, and there may have been more. Many of the corners of the boards show some wear and damage, but all remain in good condition other than showing some wear from use. No titles. Some with faint numbers. Mounted on stiff cardboard. Most images 12” x 17” with some variation in size. Titles include: 1: North American Indians", 17 3/8" x 15 5/8". Toning and edge loss throughout. 2: "Buffalo Bull Grazing", 12" x 17½". Toning.
