up for auction , yet another duplicate from my 30+ year old collection, in my Spring Cleaning Month. I figured, I don't need two of each , My other has the Brass Finish , which I seem to like, but not the original 1918 receiver and marked cap.. THIS IS A CANADIAN MADE GEM!!... READ ON...This has Black enamel over 100% brass and nickle/chrome on faceplate and dial finger wheel . A real nice contrast. The photos were difficult to take and really do not do this telephone much justice, As t is alot of shining areas , . Be it Know t is NOT ONE Dent or Crack or Mark on this Entire Vintage telephone. From top to bottom lets talk about this 80+ year old telephone of CANADA, First Northern Electric was to BELL CANADA as WESTERN ELECTRIC was TO AMERICA's MA BELL & AT&T. This Phone was first put out in July , 1924 compliments to Bell Canada material . The first Exchange being in Toronto, GRover Exchange. Actually this Phone Is a Bit different than its 50-AL American Western Elctric dial candlestick . Actually , THIS ONE WAS MADE BETTER...... It has for one a Solid back cup with bold lettering Northern Electric Company Limited meaning the solid Back in that t was also the piece of solid brass that went into the perch . The Western Electrics were just one piece of Hollow brass. Secondly the Base is more rounded a bit higher not a flat pancake type bake as the westerns. One of the best surprises is the third item the Perch (neck piece of Phone) . The westerns were made of brass to , as the entire phone, But the American Westerns marked 50-AL or other number were made of hollow drawn brass, THIS ONE IS SOLID BRASS , not Hollow and Marked on back as you can see N50-AL. Sorry that some shots came out a bit blurred. Noe This Phone has Magnificent rich Black enamel as it were new. The Nickle/ Chrome faceplate and Dial finger plate are original plating over brass. T are 4 main componants of a dial candlestick that one should know, One is the receiver , the second the transmitter, the third the Dial ofcourse, and lastly but cetainly not leastly , the switching mechanisms nside the phone. . Ok! The receiver first , has the old Magnet type , it will work as magnet holds onto diaphrgm real well. , The shell and cap has turned a bit lighter in color over thr years not a chip or crack to be found anyw, and the Cap is marked Northern Electric Limited And the bottom side Pat 1918 #144 (type of receiver) . Above the transmitter faceplate , having the old but nice nickle -plated brass ofcourse, is the original Mouthpiece, it to has not a crack or chip to be found anyw and inside/behind the transmitter faceplate is ofcourse the original transmitter, with Diaphragm and all parts in tact. Now the dial, This is an older Dial , with the #'s only It an A.E (Automatic Electric) but made by Phillips in CANADA. The porcelain is near perfect, the dial works smoothly and will retract just as smoothly. It has the A.E. Symbol in the dial center. Now For the switching mechanism , Very important , because I know when You Buy a phone from Ebay , and especially if its a Different maker like Kellogg or Stromberg , Your Practical have Nothing if you don't have the swithing mechanism intact and Working , All it Does is very simple it Makes and brakes the curcuit depending if the Receiver is on or Off "the Hook" The curcuit need to be incomplete ( or Broken curcuit) when a phone call comes in or they will get a Busy signal, When you a phone call coming in , you then Pick up the receiver making the Curcuit Complete. I have have had this phone for nearly 32 years .Had this phone sitting in a Box in my closet in New England sitting amongst Softest cotton cloths While for 30 years living in California. This Phone is So Beautiful, it really deserves a place to display it all by itself , Ofcourse it can be rewired to work , . I can have it done for a mere $28 or $20 plus $8 for Extra cloth cord and plug. This phone as all my VINTAGE piece come with a 100% satisfaction or money back.AND BY THAT I mean with Insurance! FULL 10...
