You are bidding on a REPRODUCTION of a late 19th century Northern Plains horn rattle. This type of rattle was used by most Northern Plains tribes. The body of the rattle was made of either a section of a buffalo horn or in later days of cow horn. This rattle features cow horn, the open ends closed with pieces of wood which are fastened with small brass tacks. The handle of the rattle is fully bead wrapped with small seed beads. Colors used are translucent dark red, yellow, some pink and turquoise. At the botoom of the handle are two salvage cloth pendants to which are attached some old flat hawk bells. The top of the rattle is decorated with some tin cones and two hawk feathers. The rattle has a very nice patina. Overal length: 18 inches without the pendants.
