Welcome to this auction! Description : I have searched for information for a bowl this large and was unable to come up with anything. If anyone has any further information on it, I would appreciate hearing from you. In Heacock's Opalescent Glass from A to Z, he says that this pattern was first made by the Buckeye company. The writers of the Northwood book said they are fairly certain that Northwood acquired this mold and used it to produce glass. It is called ruby opalescent chrysanthemum swirl. It is a cranberry color. I believe this was made either in the late 1800s or the very early 1900s. The top diameter measures about 7.5"; the base itself is also about 7.5" but at the most bulbous part, it measures about 8-3/4". This particular bowl resembles the base of the butter dish that is pictured in the Northwood book but it is much larger than that. You could probably get about two 1-pound butters side by side in this one. Please note: The tumbler shown is for size demonstration purposes only. It is NOT included in this auction . That tumbler is just about 4" high so you can see how large the bowl is in comparison. When it is flicked lightly with a finger, it rings clear as a bell . Is it flint glass? I am not sure how to tell but I do know that it has a different ring to it than the Fenton glass that I collect; it echoes longer (that's the best way I can describe it). Please do not hesitate to ask any further questions. Bid to own this beauty; it will sell to the highest bidder! Condition : Chips along the rim. The largest one is 1/2" long by 1/8" high. The next largest one is 3/16" by 1/8". T are several chips and nicks around the rim. Otherwise, t are no cracks or chips elsew on the bowl. T are a couple of ash spots. Insurance is recommended but not required. You will be responsible for any damage, theft, or loss that occurs after it leaves my place if insurance is declined. Will ship to confirmed addresses only. Payment : Paypal or money order. Checks accepted but will have 10 day hold until item ships. Please pay within 7 days after you receive an invoice. If you are unable to pay for some reason, please notify me within 7 days after auction ends.Returns : No refunds for buyer's remorse. If I grossly misrepresent something, I will refund your money. Item must be returned in the same condition as when it was sent. Straw marks, mold marks, air bubbles, and ash are common in older pieces of glass. These things still happen in modern glass making. Each piece of glass is unique, especially when made by hand. I try as much as possible to describe flaws and damage but may sometimes miss something unintentionally. Please ask questions before bidding.Thank you for your interest in this auction. I will combine items if it is possible to save you shipping costs! Questions yet? Just use ask the seller a question key.
