This is a fabulous example of the Northwood Stippled Marigold Three Fruit Plate. It is in excellent condition without any chips or cracks. T are some pinhole sized rubs to the tops of the fruits and one small scratch on the rim. Hopefully you can see those in the pictures. Otherwise the irridescence is evenly applied and the plate has lots of great color. It has hot pinks and greens and blues, all of the great pastel colors. The ribbed underside seems to carry the color to the edges like sunbeams. For that reason and the stippling this 9.25" plate has always been one of my favorites. It is just over 1.5" tall at the rim. The underside is not irridized.
Carnival Glass is made by fuming or spraying hot pressed glass with metallic oxides. This forms an irridescent coating on the surface of the glass that reflects the colors of the rainbow. It is similar to the effect of oil on a puddle of water. Photographs can't totally reproduce the effect of light hitting the glass. These photographs were taken inside in natural light from a window and an incandescent light from above. As a longtime Antique Dealer I have collected a lot of glass. I would never keep anything but the best examples for my own collection. See my other auctions for more great Carnival Glass pieces. Please email with any questions. Note: I do not bill for insurance coverage. It is completely optional to the buyer. I do package very carefully and include delivery confirmation. However, once the item is given to the shipper, I can no longer be responsible for its arrival. Insurance, though not required, is recommended.
