Super rare Stretch Glass vase made by Northwood Glass Company circa 1910-20s in their very rare and selsom offered Royal Purple color. Vase is large standing 10 1/4 inches tall with original gold decoration over the stretch and iridescent finish. While this vase is blown molded it is Northwood's earlier attempt to produce their own version of Art Glass and has an elegant presence to it that surpasses their later more mass produced stretch glass lines. This color is seldom found and must have been produced in limited quantities, it is only the second piece in this color that i have possessed in over 40 years of collecting and only the third i have seen. The only other pieces i have seen have all been vases and the other pieces i have seen have had much more subdued coloring and iridescence, they were almost washed out in appearance. Also the gold decoration was extremely faint on those pieces. on this piece it is almost mint with at least 95 percent remaining if not more. T is obvious wear to the bottom of this vase but it is evident that the piece was well prized and taken care of as the outer surfaces are mark free. The bottom has the molded star rayed pattern that is seen on several of the Northwood mold shapes. The top rim which was hand shaped and molded and has evidence of the handlers tool marks left while the glass was semi-molten but none of these marks are damage and all have iridescence covering them further indicating that they are marks made during the manufacturing and shaping process. T is no damage to this vase. The rainbow coloring of the iridescent finish rivals the Egyptian Lustre found on Diamond-Dugan's stretch glass pieces of the same era and is similar to the coloring on Steuben's Aurene pieces. The interior finish is extremely reflective and resembles the radium type iridescence seen on many of their carnival glass finishes. This may not be the most expensive piece of stretch glass that i have owned but i do consider it the rarest piece based on known surviving pieces. Shipping in US is $13.00 fully insured at retail value and will be double boxed for protection. Modest reserve.
