Classic Northwood Glass Stippled Rays Marigold, Pie Crust Edge Low, Shallow Carnival Glass Bowl Approximate Dimensions: 9½"(D) x 2¼"(H) x 4"(Base D) Made by Harry C. Northwood Glass Company Wheeling, West Virginia ca 1908 Source : Heacock, William, James Measell, & Berry Wiggins (1991), Harry Northwood: The Wheeling Years 1901-1925. Antique Publications: Marietta, OH. This wonderful, antique "Stippled Rays" marigold, "pie crust edge" carnival glass bowl was made by the Northwood Glass Company about 1908. The Northwood trademark ("Underlined N in a Circle") is on the interior bottom center button of the bowl. The stippled rays adorn the interior of the bowl, while the exterior is smooth. {Photo taken outdoors with no flash.} Very Brief Background on Northwood & Dugan. Thomas Dugan and his cousin, Harry C. Northwood, started out in the 1880s as employees at the Hobbs-Brockunier Glass firm in Wheeling, West Virginia. Eventually, Harry would form the Northwood Glass Company of Wheeling, West Virginia and Thomas would form the Dugan Glass Company of Indiana, Pennsylvania . Both companies were kingpins of the carnival and opalescent glass market in the early 1900's. Trading, swapping, or "borrowing" one another's glass moulds has been speculated.
