From My Father's Treasures ... I'm offering a notification of legal action against the State of Tennessee, dated APRIL 10, 1868, written to TN Governor Wm. G. Brownlow from HARRIS & PILLOW, a Nashville Law Firm, on behalf of the NASHVILLE & NORTH WESTERN RAILROAD COMPANY, THE CITY OF STILLMAN & THE STATE OF KENTUCKY. The content states that application will be made on April 15, to the District Courts of TN, Memphis, for an injunction restraining the Governor, Secretary of State & Comptroller of TN from issuing any bonds which may be due to the RR. are some of the names mentioned in the letter that I've been able to decipher. Michael Burns, Pres. N & NW RR; J. Dodds; Thomas E. Gleason; A.J. Fletcher, Sec. of State; G.W. Blackburn, Comptroller; D.E. Davenport; E.A. Otis. I'm also including an undated note, written by Gov. Brownlow, which I believe ties in with the first document. It is an order for Capt. S.B. Brown to break connection with Louisville & Nashville Road at TN State line, and at Parris with Memphis & Ohio RR, to keep RR operation minimal, but still functioning. I'll leave the details to the pics, but if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to e-mail me. I welcome all input. Thanks for looking and have a great eBay! Be sure to put me on your Favorites and check out my other items ! PROVENANCE: These letters were rescued from demolition IN 1975 by my late father, during renovations on a downtown Knoxville building that was once the home of Tennessee's radical Union Governor William Gannaway Brownlow, his family and business offices.
