Notts. NEWARK, silver shilling token 1811 of Stansall Moor Fisher Lingham & Co Description Silver shilling token dated 1811 of T. Stansall, C. Moor, R. Fisher, W. Fillingham, W. Readett and T. Wilson of Newark in eastern Nottinghamshire. Obverse : View of classical facade of Town Hall, 'NEWARK SILVER TOKEN FOR ONE SHILLING'. Reverse : List of names, 'THE CURRENT VALUE PAYABLE IN CASH NOTES.' The men listed on the reverse were all prominant traders in Newark who had got together and produced this token to facilitate trade at a time when there was little coin in circulation due to the war with Napoleon. Thomas Stansall and William Readett were a grocers, Charles Moor a chemist, Richard Fisher and William Fillingham drapers and Thomas Wilson a brazier . Dalton - Notts 4 24.75mm. 4.1gm.
