Full original calf with gilt decorations on spine."Bossu's account of his first two voyages to Louisiana was printed in 1768, after which he made a third voyage, the account of which is given in this volume, which not having been reprinted, nor translated into any other language, is a much scarcer work than the former." Howes B627. Field 158. On this third voyage made in 1770, he revisited his old friends, the Arkansas Indians, and on their behalf made a mission to the Caddos and Attakapas. He then returned to France in 1771. Most of the letters are dated from the Arkansas post. Very nice copy full of beautiful plates of Gabriel de Saint Aubin, one of the best illustrators of the eighteenth century. Includes a physical description and history of the island of Santo Domingo.
