To view the entire patent, just go to http://patft.uspto.gov - type in the patent number, then click on the "Search" button, and then on the "Images" button. is a brief excerpt from the claims for this model: "This invention relates to a new device for holding railroad-tickets, and consists chiefly of a sheet-metal plate having turned inside and bottom edges, wby flanges are formed, between which and the body of the plate a ticket can be conveniently held. "To the back of the plate may be attached a suitable pin, to facilitate its attachment to a garment, or rings may be formed on its sides, as shown, to allow the device-to be attached to the ends of a hat-band. "The main advantage of this device consists in its simplicity and cheapness, as it can be stamped of one single piece of sheet metal. It can be ornamented in any suitable manner, so that it will have an elegant appearance." I confess I didn't know that people "wore" tickets on their garments or in their hatbands, but maybe if we had these today we wouldn't be rummaging in purses or pockets to find ours! It will be a fine conversation piece! This model includes both the original receiving tag and the origianl patent office patent tag that was hand-written when its patent was granted. Note the faded, red-colored tape attached to the tag. This is the same red tape used by government officials in the 19th century to bundle papers and the like.
