NUN PHOTO- DAUGHTERS OF CHARITY -BEAUTIFUL RPPC In this auction, we are offering a VINTAGE Black and White REAL PHOTO POSTCARD OF 3 DAUGHTERS OF CHARITY. T are no markings on this card; it measures 3 1/2 x 5 1/4 inches, and is in good condition. This beautiful photo post card is a wonderful piece of NUNOBILIA. DAUGHTER OF CHARITY HISTORY: The poor claim the Daughters of Charity as their very own. Their origins began with the needs of the poor. St. Vincent de Paul gatd a group of pious country girls, trained them under St. Louise de Marillac and sent them out to the streets of Paris. In a short time they were in demand everyw Social conditions of the 17th century called for dedicated women who, not restricted to a cloister, would consecrate their lives to the service of the poor. For the Daughter of Charity "her convent would be the home of the sick; her cell, a rented room; her chapel, the parish church; her cloister, the streets of the city. The needs of the poor determine their works. Included among these works were child-care, institutions, visiting the sick, hospitals and teaching. In 1809, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton established a branch of the Daughters of Charity at Emmitsburg, Maryland. Their habit was the garb of the peasant girl of 1633.
