This small tea pot (stands approx. 8.5cm/3.5" & max.width 10.5cm/4.25"- takes approx 12 fl.oz ) was manufactured by Ashworth Bros. as part of a range of crockery items commissioned by P&O specially for use on SS Canberra for her Maiden Voyage in 1961. This service became fleet-wide by the 1970's and lasted throughout the fleet until c.1980. This crockery service was designed by Lady Casson. She was the wife of Sir Hugh Casson, famed for her designs of pottery, carpets and furniture. The service is sometimes referred to as the "Maze Pattern". This is a rare example of a tea pot with the China Tea logo. In many years of collecting I've only come across three, one in my collection, another in a friend's collection and this one. Bottom marked Ashworth Bros. Real Ironstone China. In very good undamaged condition except for the lid, which has a couple of chips on the underside rim (see scan), which cannot be seen when on display. It is very possible that a replacement lid can be found; also it could easily be restored. Faint crazing to the top of lid, but no crazing to the pot. The scan shows a slight browning to the top of the pot by the handle and also on the opposite side near the spout - this is a reflection and not a stain on the pot.
