Oak 'Aussteuer ' Chest German Ca 1830 This is a Typical german chest made by the village Carpenter under the instructions of a farmer as a wedding present for his daughter (bride) . It would be filled with the things a newley wed couple would need to move into their new home eg.Duvet, Sheets,Table cloths,A dinner service,Silverware and a sortiment of fabrics (for clothes and dresses. This chest is jointed ,therefore there are no nails used , just dowels. The lock is hand crafted and made out of wrought iron, The key was missing as i found it in the top of a barn in a german farmyard , I have chose an old key and made it to fit. I then brought it to a restorer Who the bathed it in a alkali solution to remove the painted surface (not original). It is now in original condition ,The brass fittings are not original , but still, they were fitted over 120 years ago ,They are not polished up ,They have 120 years of patina . Inside is a seperate compartment for silverware , plus a drawer at the bottom. There are a few signs of wair which is normal for a trunk of this age. When the buyer has collected it and found a suitable position for it,Then rubs in some bees wax, The grain explodes into a maze of different colours and textures as only oak wood can. This is collection only on a weekend if poss. Payment by paypal, details below.
