I then brought it to a restorer Who the bathed it in a alkali solution to remove the painted surface (not original). It is now in original condition ,The brass fittings are not original , but still, they were fitted over 120 years ago ,They are not polished up ,They have 120 years of patina . Inside is a seperate compartment for silverware , plus a drawer at the bottom. There are a few signs of wair which is normal for a trunk of this age.
