The Arts and Craft style is characterized by simple, utilitarian design, and construction. Mission-Style commonly resembles Arts and Crafts Style, this desk having the following attributes common to this period: Appearance : Straight lines, simple design and little ornamentation. Straight lines and heavy proportion Drawer Pull : Bail handle with back plate. Mushroom-shaped wooden knob. Round brass ring pull without a back plate Finish: Stain and Oil Finish Foot : Continuation of leg. Hardware Material : Wood and small finish nails Joint : Hand-Cut Dovetails at rear of drawer Mortised solid wood leg stretchers Line: Straight lines Motif : None Proportion : Heavy Resembles : Mission Shaker Underbracing: Moderate Wood: Believe it to be Oak With unique contrast between the beauty of natural, solid wood and the rich barn-red paint that draws out the red grain pattern from the oak-stained wood, this desk combines both, substance of times-past and a modern artistic touch that creates a quaint working desk in any room. This desk, with a quality appearance from both front or back, is in very good shape, sturdy, fully functional and operational, with appealing straight lines contrasting rounded edges; natural wood grain patterns complimenting rich barn-red painting.
