This oak office secretary or clerks chair is 1880 to 1900. The chair contains a brass label that reads " Sold By Clark & Courts Galveston, Texas. The chair was used and found in a Galveston business. The chair has been refinished and is in great condition. The wooden upright supporting the backrest ( which is frequently broken and beyond repair) has been rebuilt out of old white oak to the same specifications as the original. The cast iron support, height adjusting gear and springs are in original excellent condition and ready for your use. The seat is raised and lowered by turning the ring gear until the desired height is achieved. The four rolling wheels are new 2.5 inch diameter rubber wheels. This chair has a great history coming from one of the greatest southern ports in the U.S. before the Civil War. It would make a wonderful addition and conversation piece to your home or office .
