Oceania 1 Pound possible rare discovery notes (uniface front and back). There are some watermark letters or symbols on each but I could not make them out.It does not appear to be "524 BOND" that is in the Australian replicas. As with one of the previously listed notes, I bought this in Australia more than 25 year ago. When World War Two Remembered was published I sent copies of the note to Joseph Boling who had never seen one. He suggested that they they could have been printed by Australian Military Intelligence as a possible future counterfeiting operation. An alternative explanation is that it is some sort of souvenir/replica note but without the "replica" notation. All of the period replicas were whole notes and not uniface with translations which tends to support Mr. Bolings theory. Both pieces have many folds with some rust stains on the back. There is a small hole and a small tear in the upper margin of the Reverse note along with a thin area in the lower right margin. The Face note is fully intact ith no holes or tears. If anyone has specific information on this note, please send it to me and I will add it to the description. Insurance is required on this item. Can also ship registered which is the safest way. However, insurance is not available on international registration. While I have never lost an international registered shipment, the risk is on the buyer. Other shipping services are also available according to the buyer preference. I will be selling a major part of my collection during the next few months mostly by individual country. This weekend’s listing will have single notes from Panama, Mali, French Guinea, Azores/Portugal pair and Ceylon multiple notes from Bhutan, Ceylon/Sri Lanka and selected Pacific Islands, some of which are quite scarce and rarely offered for sale, especially the World War II notes.
