KANSAS CITY KARNIVAL KREWE ***** We have up for bid a 'very' old, and 'rare' item. Needless-to-say, we weren't even sure what catagory to put it in. "Our research shows that the Kansas City Karnival Krewe was organized in 1894 as a humorous fun activity to be held in conjunction with the Priests of Pallas events. It was discontinued in 1903 after some of the activities became to boisterous and riotous." This information is from the Kansas-City Library archive article by the Citation Magazine. What a wonderful, unique piece of Kansas City History!!!! When we first looked it over and saw it kept referring to the KKK, we were concerned. But, after looking at the date and reading it some more, we became aware that this KKK, doesn't have anything to do with the later day KKK group. So, we will do our best to explain what we have found. The proclamation measures approximately 18" x 11". The paper is either smoke or water stained, perhaps both. But it is intact and only one corner is bent a little and t is an approximate 1/2" separation at one of the folds. The colors are still bright and rich and the ribbon on the bottom is still intact. This says: "What fools these mortals be."
