Benton used to take his students on sketching trips. On one of the trips, my dad convinced him to go to a sorghum mill near where my dad was raised in Pleasant Valley, MO. My dad produced three paintings and his paintings are described in the book, "Under the Influence: The Students of Thomas Hart Benton. Sorghum Mill #3 is now in a private collection.Benton released a lithograph of the mill in 1969. Jackson Lee Nesbitt released a series of etchings of the sorghum mill titled, "October Afternoon". Framed, it measures approximately 18 x 21 ¾ and the etching measures approximately 9 ½" x 13 ½".This is a fairly famous work and may be seen online at:/artists/jackson-lee-nesbitt/past-auction-results
