French cavalry saddle made by Douenat of Paris, with bayonet-style mount pommel bags (one marked by Douenat), and French saddlebags with permanently attached tie-down straps. All in excellent shape, excepting some leather damage on the end of the right cantle extension and some fairly small, repairable areas of damage on fabric of the left saddle pad (see pictures). This Saumur-style saddle is typical of French equipment purchased by American officers on active duty in France during WW1 - and the center reinforcement on the connector strap betwen the saddlebags is stamped "HQ 1.".
