For Auction: One Hexagonal Gorget, with a concave center; dual use Pendant: 3 perforations.

Description: Maximum length: 4 3/8" (11.07 cm), max width 2" (5.18cm), max thickness is at center 3/8"(0.9cm). Uniformly thinning toward both points resulting in 1/8" and 1/32" points! This is how all high grade pieces are shaped after polishing! . Perforations are notable: Gorget has both holes drilled from one side only; pendant hole is drilled from both sides! Sides polished; ends polished. One perforation nearest end for vertical suspension. And dual horizontal perforations for use as gorget . UNIQUE SHAPE! Shape is concave at center, it is unreported in any historic record or published finds I have had access to. 3 hole slate artifacts are RARE, and the few seen are rectangular: ($225.-425.00 range). One Bell-shaped and another with 5 sides were in the low $1,000.00 range. This relic has obverse and reverse sides that are not polished, surfaces are as natural banded slate is found at quary sites. Tooling and polishing was only performed on edges, ends and perforations. Light obverse and reverse scraping is to reduce a few natural band high-spots, see illustrations above. These scrapings are seen as dark lines. OHS (Colombus) experts studied this in early 2001, scan #226, they paid it special attention.

Age: Reasonable guess is Glacial Kame due to style.

Material: Raw green banded slate.

Found: Between 1862-1927 by either Wm Segrist or his son Wm Secrist on Wharton Ohio farm "SE1/4-SE1/4-S10-Twp2-E40-SR12E-WytCoO" Section #10 Wharton (earlier Richland Twp) Wyandot Co Ohio.

Grade: 9. I do not know what a G-10 looks like, t is nothing I have seen or are aware of too compare to! Reasonable reserve on this rare relic. Good luck!
