's a nice vintage souvenir postcard folio from the ocean liner M. S. "Asama-Maru." In 1929 the "Asama-Maru" was built in Japan for the Nippon Yusen Kaisha Line, and subsequently set a speed record for the trans-Pacific crossing on the Yokohama-San Francisco route. As this ship sailed under the Japanese flag it was eventually sunk by an American submarine on November 1, 1944. The folio consists of 15 postcards in a paper folder. Thirteen of the cards are unused and have never been posted. Two of the cards carry messages as if they were going to be enclosed in a letter. The views include: the ship itself (2); the Tudor Style "Smoking Room" (4); "The Sitting Room of the Suite De Luxe" (2); the Georgian Style "Lounge" which could be converted to a "Grand Ball-Room" or cinema (3); the Roman Style "Swimming Pool" with fresh water showers (2); and the "Bed-Room of the Suite De Luxe" (2). The 2 cards with the undated messages are one of the Smoking Room and one of the Lounge, which are numbered by the writer as "2" and "3"....so we don't know to whom they were addessed. These cards were written by a "Marion" who seems to have been married to an "Alfred."
