Worldwide, the statistical data for twin births indicate they normally occur once in every eighty births. However, the country of Nigeria has always had a higher than normal twin birth rate. In Yoruba land, twin births occur once in every twenty two births according to various reference materials. This OYO Ere Ibeji pair is a good example of this type Ibeji. This pair was collected in 2000 from a trader located at the Hotel du Golf located in Lome, Togo. My research using numerous books and research manuals clearly indicate that this pair of Ibejis is of the OYO type. T is some wear on the Ibejis, one has a right foot at the top which is worn almost to the ankle, and the base is missing a small piece, and the other has a large chunk of the base and a portion of the right foot missing. The wood has the appearance of being old and in my opinion they are old, but I have no idea how old and both Ibejis have very nice patina. These Ibejis are exactly the same as the day I collected them. I will ship this pair internationally and charge appropriate fees based on POD. The domestic shipping rate for this pair is USD 20.00 but insurance is highly recommended. Make an offer and if residing overseas, shipping fees for international shipping can be worked out at that time.
