NATIVE ALASKAN ESKIMO SCRIMSHAW CARVED IVORY
Howard Sikvoan Weyahok
Point Hope (Tigara), Alaska
OLD NATIVE MADE PIECE BY FAMOUS NATIVE ARTIST!!!GREAT MELLOW AGED PATINA At the request of my Aunt who is a native Alaskan and still resides t part time, I am selling some of her Native Alaskan Eskimo items. My aunt is in her 70's and married my uncle late in life and they have no children to pass her family items on to. Since I run an estate liquidation / antique store and sell on Ebay she has given me several items to list this week. Some are my Aunt's personal items and some were her parents family things. I will be listing many more Alaskan items over the next couple months.
Offered is a wonderful ARTIST SIGNED SCRIMSHAW carved TOOTH/TUSK either from a whale or a walrus. The color variations of the ivory tooth/tusk is wonderful with shadings from soft warm caramel to an aged creamy ivory and t is good graining visible. The front of the tusk is etched with a striking scrimshaw design of an Eskimo ice fishing and the back is signed by famous Native Alaskan artist HOWARD WEYAHOK. T is much information available about Weyahok on the internet.
This great artist signed native walrus/whale ivory tusk/tooth carving is quite beautiful and very collectible .The old tusk/tooth itself is a little over 3 inches long with a great old mellow aged patina that is deeper than many I have seen. It's a very heavy weighty piece for it's size. The scrimshaw carving is very detailed and well done. Weyahok is one of the more famous of the Native Alaskan artists. He is known for painting, his scrimshaw and carving, and the many books of Northern tales and history he illustrated. Weyahok died in 1976.
LOVELY OLD AGED MELLOW PATINA!!!

Also as buyers, please be aware that the STAR RATING SYSTEM put in place by Ebay is flawed. In Ebay's wisdom, they label a '4' as 'satisfied',etc... BUT in actuality rate it as a 'bad' mark against sellers. A score of anything less than a 4.5 is considered 'poor' by Ebay and a seller's fees, placement in the new 'BEST MATCH' sort,...
