This is the Ultimate in Fine Collectors Antique Swords. This Sword is from a Collection and very few are offered of this caliber, so I recommend that if you ever thought about owning a Scottish Basket Hilted Broadsword, this is a chance in a million. This sword is 100% authentic and original. . . .even has it's original leather grip and a piece of the original wire wrap. This is a true broadsword of Scotland, and I am sure, has seen many battles. When I say true Broadsword, I mean it is very large measuring over 42 inches long! The blade alone is 37 1/4 inches long! It is the standard for the mid to late 1600's, as it has a guard of heavy iron or steel. T are no broken branches on the guard. Also I should mention that the blade is 1 5/8 inches wide at the ricasso. . . . .another relevant note is that the blade has some engraving on it . .what I believe is most likely the makers mark. May be possible to pull this out with good cleaning. T are areas of light pitting, but negligible, as this is normal for a sword of this age. The blade is single edged for 27 inches of it's length and the last 10 inches is double edged. A wide 1/2 inch fuller runs 27 inches of the length on both sides. Very few are to be found in this good condition, especially considering the age at over 360 + years old. This sword was authenticated, dated and proclaimed original over a dozen years ago. Swords of this caliber regularly sell for over $6000.00. This sword is an Authentic Original and has been maintained in a collection for many years and is now being sold from a private collection. It was originally maintained in a family estate in Scotland. . Please note: My Scottish tartan (scarf) and Book are not included. They don't come much better than this. Sometimes it is difficult to pin an exact date on a sword . . .or any item of historical value but the era can usually be rounded off by makers marks, style and design, materials used, and (true) patina. My specialty is in discerning reproductions. T are obvious ways, and some not so obvious, to discern the difference.
