OldOctagonal Flow Blue/GoldPlatterDeep Cobalt Flowers on Vine This platter came from an extremely well-appointed family estate auction held in the Midwest. I know very, very little about flow blue, and having no maker's mark, know even less about this piece. I would guess it is English, again, have no idea. Am hoping those with far greater knowledge will recognize this piece either by pattern or shape or perhaps another attribution. It has the look and feel of Ironstone/Stoneware. It is large and heavy. Colour is dark cobalt with gold highlights accenting the leaves and flowers. I have no idea the flower on the vine. Has an Oriental look, like a poppy, morning glory, or even trumpet lily. Decoration is simple and has a great look. Love the Octagonal angled shape. Am guessing it dates to around 1840s perhaps earlier. Despite legitimate attributes, it also has an apology. T is a tight hairline crack extending almost 4 inches from the rim to the center. Though it cannot be felt with your fingertips, the hairline is t and is visible against the white ground. I did my best to magnify in my photos. T are no other apologies to be made (as if that's not enough!) to this piece. T are no other cracks, chips, unwarranted marks or repairs.
