Antique Spanish Decorative Bilbo or Rapier
First of Two; Ex-British Estate Up for auction is the first of a pair of antique Victorian decorative Spanish cup-hilted rapiers we recently acquired out of a British estate . Winning bidder has the option of purchasing the second at two times the money. The sword (or at least the hilt) appears to be of a pattern very similar to the 1774 Pattern regulation Spanish bilbo sword. Both the hilt and the blade have been plated - either in silver, bright nickel, or similarly bright metal. The 33-inch (838.2 mm) blade (40 3/8 inches, or 1,025.5 mm overall) is 1 1/8 inches (28.6 mm) wide at the 3 3/4-inch (95.3 mm) ricasso, and is etched in a scrolling design to 11 1/2 inches (292.1 mm) from the hilt (see the photos below). The guard, with one forward-swept and one rearward-swept quillion, measures approx. 8 1/2 inches (215.9 mm) in width. T are no maker's marks to be found, on either the blade, the hilt, or the rat-tail tang. While a decorative sword only, it is a genuine Victorian antique, and provides a classic example of the middle-late 18th Century Spanish cup-hilted rapier carried by Spanish regulars both at home and abroad. We have set the reserve to a very low price of only $49. NOTE: You must be at least 18 years of age to purchase this item. International bidders are responsible for knowing whether or not the import of this item is allowed into their country. Please see our other auctions for rare and affordable edged weapons, Native American, Pre-Columbian, African, and South Asian antiques and antiquities.
