Whether you place them on your bed, use them for decor purposes, or hang them on the wall as ART, we hope you create an environment, and a collection, that bring you happiness and comfort. Each quilt or quilt top is a unique creation. If we have any history or provenance, it will be given in the listing. Please email any questions. We ship USPS priority with a tracker. Shipping for this quilt top is $7.95, and we do reduce shipping on multiple purchases. Insurance is extra, but not required. Bidders outside the U.S., global air priority shipping charges will be sent on your invoice. If you have an estate or quality antique consignments that you wish to liquidate, please email and we'll be happy to work out arrangement for an appraisal. Bid with confidence, and thanks for viewing! Item: Bought at an estate sale in southern Mississippi, this wonderful old quilt top is a generational creation. The corner blocks were created by a great-great-great grandmother, raised on a plantation near Goodman, Mississippi ~~ a former slave, and tenant/plantation worker after the war ~~ these blocks are constructed of 1800s calico print cottons that have weatd well over time, considering their age. They represent four crops: cotton, corn, peas, and sweet potatoes. Some feedsack and ticking materials were added later, and the blocks were foundation-pieced. The center cross was added probably around the 1950s, by later generations to represent blessings and the road to freedom that their ancestors lived through ~~ great historial folk-art! Age: Mid-1800s to 1950s-era ~~ generational quilt top. Size: 73" x 75" Handwork: Handpieced, hand-stitched with turkey-track stitching, and machine-sewn together. Batting: N/A Condition: Very good for its age, considering the blocks are nearing 150 years of age ~~ clean, colorful with minor fading, intact ~~ the turkey-track stitching is fabulous, and the historical value speaks for itself ~~ a MUST-HAVE for any folk-art collector!
