This is beautiful turn of the century stool one of the finest I have ever seen. It was produced by Johnson Chair Co. out of Chicago Ill. Johnson Chair is a recognised Arts and Crafts period manufacturer that started manufacturing in the 1880's. The stool is all original including the oak seat. The seat bracket has been move 3 times that I can tell, It has had a coat of old thick black paint on the seat only that is just about worn off. As you can see the seat is split. When I got it it had a piece of old aluminum striping holding it together and I removed it and put the three brass plates 1/8" thick on the bottom. I did not use any glue when I put it together and between the original seat bracket and the 3 brass plates it is very sturdy, I weigh 210 lbs and it doesn't even budge. The cast iron is in great condition with no breaks, cracks or repairs. I added one tap to the bottom of one of the feet as it had a little less than 1/4" play which caused it to rock slightly. Now it sets perfectly even and you can't even tell the tap is t The base with it's finely worn 12 stretchers is as tight as the day it was made. I can honestly tell you that I do not believe it has ever been taken apart reglued or restuctured in any way. T is no question that the paint is no later than the 1920's it is a phenominal deep red early paint. Pictures in read more
