From my private collection, catalogue # 214, an honest and authentic metate / mano, very heavy dense stone, 22 pounds. From the Snake River / Latah County, Idaho area. Latah County is located in the northern Idaho panhandle; to the immediate west lies Whitman County , Washington. These counties are referred to as "the Palouse". Found legally and on private land. -This particular metate and mano was found under a rock outcropping, it was used to grind camas and kouse roots found in abundance in this area. Camas bulbs were baked in underground ovens, and smashed / ground into something that looks like tobacco, actually very tasty. Couse root was ground into flour and eaten.
