Old Basket Original Blue Paint Great Kicked Up Bottom You are bidding on an old small handwoven splint basket found in Magnolia, Delaware. It has traces of the original blue on it and t are no breaks or missing pieces. This wonderful little basket measures 7 1/2" high and the opening in the top is approx. 4" one way and about 4 1/2" the other. T is a slight bulge on one side. The bottom is unusual in that the bottom is kicked up inside the basket. I have taken several pictures to shown how the bottom is raised up on the inside. The handle is a piece of carved bent wood that is woven far down into the sides. T is a single bent over nail on one side of the inside that helps hold the handle on. T is the tiniest of holes on the center spoke on the outside bottom, probably w the maker held the splats together to weave the basket. The blue paint is darker on the outside than the inside and is very dry in places. T is a nice overall patina, especially on the handle. I have shown the handle from the inside and on top of the handle. T is a spot on top of the handle that looks as if the handle started to crack at one time, but it is not rough and does not stick up and appears to be solid everyw A nice sturdy little basket for the collector, and one of the nicest I've had in awhile. Would look great displayed with old yellowware or an old quilt collection etc. Please see my other auctions for a very nice hand carved small wooden old folk art dog in original painted finish that I will be listing. The other photos are a more accurate picture of the color which is a bluish grey. I have had several inquiries about the handle. I have added another picture (the very last picture) of the top of the handle w it sits at a funny angle. T is no crack, just a small roughish spot. The handle is sturdy. Thanks
