Vintage Breyer Western Horse

This is the Breyer "Traditional" Western Horse, the first horse mold Breyer made, with an unusual style of saddle I've not seen before - it has a slip-buckle girth, not the more common snap saddle or the later slip saddle these usually came with.

The horse measures about 10-1/8" high and is a glossy white plastic. He has dark facial shading and sort of a reddish/brown/grey shading on his mane and tail.

(NOTE: The horse was very dirty when I got it. I've cleaned him very carefully, but I don't want to mess with the mane/tail because I'm not sure what is dirt and what is shading, and the finish can be very fragile on these older models)

He has box-link chain reins, round conchos with gold centers, and an otherwise unpainted bridle/breastcollar. He has a few little marks that will probably clean up, the usual rough seams seen on these older models, a few slight surface scratches, and slight hoof finish wear. Overall he is in very nice condition for a 50+ year old model!

The saddle is brown plastic and has gold trim. The girth has a slip-buckle, which as I said I haven't seen before (and I'm a long-time collector). The vinyl of the girth is somewhat stiff and the buckle and hardware are a little rusty, but otherwise the saddle is in great shape. Also included is a felt saddle pad, it is stained and very dirty around the edges, but it may be original.

This looks a lot like the Alabaster horse mounted on a Mastercrafter clock shown on page 167 of Felicia Browells "Breyer Animal Collector's Guide" (4th Ed.), but he does not have holes in the bottom of his hooves, so he was sold separately. Breyer originally designed these horses for use on the clocks in 1950 and used the mold for their first production model, so this is definitely an early example.

Be sure to check my other listings, I am happy to combine shipments to save on shipping costs. I am very familiar with proper packing methods for fragile items - I collect china horse figurines and I know how heartbreaking it can be to have your "holy grail" arrive damaged. Take a look at my feedback and buy with confidence! Please ask all questions before buying, returns accepted only if item has been misrepresented.
