YES A MAGNET STICKS TO THESE OLD BIRD FIGURES...I am thinking that shows they are CAST IRON (as magnets do not stick to bronze) these are of the texture of most old doorstops, and look as if they were made from a mold like the old doorstops were... painted a green underneath (like many old doorstops also were) these are brush touched with gold on the top of the base green...th ese are an interesting pair found in an estate sale at an older home sitting atop the fireplace mantle this beautifully crafted pair of birds features the male (could be the opposite I am just guessing) standing tall and proud, while the female preens, as she stretches a wing and tucks her head...The one I call the male has feet about 2 inches in size, and is a bit over 6 1/2 inches tall and from tail feathers to top of head its about 9 inches .. . looking very closely at him I see an indentation in his tail feathers, and t are pin prick holes scattered about his body, I figured they were from the making time...he is not solid as I can hear something inside him when I turn him to and fro...he is very heavy however...his little feet have the ridges in his toes, his feathers show the ruffles, his eyes are beautifully done with the round and lash marks (or whatever they are)made into the eye area...t are mould marks, no cracks, in his shoulder.... .the female is comparable size, not exact, but these were made as a pair and I cannot seperate them ! This pair were found on an antique fireplace being used as architectural artsy deco...this pair is heavy, and beautifully done..both of them have nodules on either sides of their beaks) t are also pinprick holes in her and t, and she has a bit of her top beak missing see pix below...on her left leg is a chink and also on her right leg...she feels a bit heavier but that may just the shape of her...t is no noise as I shake her...they would make good paperweights, decorations, doorstops, even perhaps would hold up some books if they were not larger than the birds ! ...I have them out as just art ! they are not represented to be new or even close to new...they are very old and show age wear, thus the chinks and a chink is not like a flea bite on glass...a chink is more noticable...however, I had to pick these up and go over them again and again to try and find the imperfections, as I do not want to sell them without describing everything I see....I know t are many varieties of pidgeons, from homing to pouters and just too many to mention ! Perhaps someone out t knows what kind these are ?...they appear to be vintage sculpture and once I picked them up at the estate sale, I had other folks saying GEE I wish I had seen them first ! ....this is one item that if it does not sell, I sure do not mind keeping and displaying in my own home ! .....final sale bidding terms below...
