OLD CONTINENTAL FAIENCE PEWTER MOUNTED PITCHER c1800 Presented is a lovely faience tin glazed pitcher fitted with a hinged pewter lid and a pewter base. The pitcher is decorated with blue flowers, birds, and leaves. The pewter lid has a picture of the Virgin Mary and Jesus attended by angels. The piece was made in continental Europe between the mid 1700s and the mid 1800s. The tin glazed faience body looks like Dutch pottery, but it could also be from France, Germany, Italy or several other countries. A piece of the pottery along the top rim broke off, it has been crudely glued back together. A much better quality repair could be done. T was probably a pewter thumbpiece, but it must have broken off as it is currently missing. T are also a few flakes in the glaze on the handle. T are no other problems. The pitcher is 9 1/4 inches tall and 3 3/4 inches in diameter at the base. This piece is old. It is not a reproduction. And it was most likely made in the 1700s, or possibly the early 1800s.
