For your consideration is a wonderful vintage "Dazey" brand 1 quart hand cranked butter churn from an Estate Auction in Winchester, VA area. I believe it dates from around the early 1900's. Embossed in a circular pattern on the front "Dazey Churn & Mfg. Co. - St. Louis U.S.A.". The churn measures about 11 1/2" tall to the top of the handle. The rivets are tight and look to be original. One paddle piece looks to have been replaced, it is a different color. The crank moves smoothly. The wooden paddle is intact. Some people sandblast the metal tops, but I think leaving the top in it's orginial condition gives the jar character. Overall very good condition with no chips. We are not experts on churns, but are some guidelines we obtained on how to tell an original from a Repro: An original 1900's Dazey Glass Butter Churn will have several things you can look for. Since an original will most likely have been used by a family, look for some wear on the bottom of the glass jar from sliding across counter tops and tables. An original glass jar will likely have some minor flecks or chips underneath the metal lid, w the lip of the glass was bumped, chipped or clunked against something.
