Beautiful Abuja pottery from the facility founded and run by Michael Cardew in Nigeria is becoming very rare and hard to find. What was a small village in the '60s and '70s, when these lovely pieces were acquired, is now a major city and the capital of Nigeria! These bowls have been used and lovingly cared for for many years; but it is time to pass them on to someone who will continue to appreciate them for decades to come. The bowls range from 4 1/2" to 5" in diameter, are 1 1/2" high and a bit over 1" deep inside. All carry the seal "AI" for Asibo Ido, one of Cardew's earliest and best potters, as well as the Abuja Pottery stamp. They are in the typical colors of glaze from Abuja: browns, reddish browns, grays, and blues with Celadon overtones which add to their attractiveness. A perfect size for small desserts, they will enhance any table--or simply grace the collection of a pottery connoisseur. When used without accompanying pieces of Abuja pottery, wooden saucers or trays from Japan have been substituted. In either case, they have become the hostess's favourite dessert dishes.Buyer pays for shipping, to be determined after packing, depending on destination.
