old DOOR Latch Brown Swirl knobs OPEN FACE complete set! A fine smooth casting likely from the 1850's and earlier.I have been looking for more on ebay for 4 years and I have only seen 1 complete set come on for sale. This set has a real fine, smooth surface. This is a complete set with the jamb part. The brown swirl bennington knobs have small scratches but you would expect that on a latch this old. This type of latch was used on interior doors. The are called a transition latch because they were used between thumb latches and the closed box latches.It is difficult to assemble so I will leave it wired together and packed in foam peanuts. The latch can be used on a left or right swing door by flipping the bar keeper over.My 1851 house has several on the doors. The black painted set is one set on my attic door.The latch is 5" X 2 1/8" and the knobs are 1 3/4" in diameter.
